Scuba Diving

Scuba diving in Sri Lanka is a thrilling and rewarding experience for underwater enthusiasts. With its crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, and numerous shipwrecks, the country offers a diverse range of dive sites that cater to both beginners and experienced divers. 

  • Hikkaduwa

Situated on the southwest coast. Hikkaduwa's coral reefs are teeming with colorful fish, turtles, and other fascinating marine creatures, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling and diving. 

  • Trincomalee

Located on the northeast coast, is another popular diving destination. Its warm waters provide opportunities to explore stunning coral reefs and encounter various species of tropical fish, as well as larger marine creatures like reef sharks and manta rays. In addition to natural reefs, Sri Lanka is also known for its shipwreck diving of interest to Australian divers the British Aircraft carrier HMS Hermes and her Australian escort the HMAS Vampire sunk by a Japanese air raid in 1942 off the east coast. 

  • The Great Basses Reef

Off the southern coast at Yala is known for historic shipwrecks, is another notable spot for wreck diving. 

  • Weligama

On the southern coast, offers plenty of diving opportunities as well. Its shallow waters are ideal for beginners to gain experience and get acquainted with the underwater world. The area also supports a variety of coral species, making it a visually stunning destination for divers.
